What if English isn’t my native language?

Fellow list member Pedro Sampaio replied to yesterday’s message where I refuted “5 common objections to starting a podcast” with an excellent sixth objection:

Another objection (asking for a friend) is: "My target market is mostly in English, not in my native language". How would you handle that?

Great question!

This has come up in previous sessions of 5DPC, so in the past I have polled lots of native English speakers about how they feel when a podcast host doesn’t have perfect English.

The overwhelming response was this:

It makes them respect the host even more.

As long as the listeners can hear and understand what you’re saying, an accent or some awkward phrasing is perfectly fine.
