Simple Marketing for Solo Consultants

If you’re not getting enough leads, it’s probably because you’re not spending enough time doing marketing.

But what marketing activities should you be doing?

As a solo consultant, I feel strongly that you need to be writing and speaking a lot.

My favorite combo for this is 1) a mailing list for the writing, and 2) a podcast for the speaking.

The mailing list should be at least weekly but more often (i.e., daily) is actually easier and more effective. For more on this, checkout Doing Daily.

The podcast should be at least biweekly, and it’s easier to do it with guests or a co-host. I would record with video so you can chop it up and share on YouTube and other video platforms that have better discovery algorithms than audio podcast players.

Once you have these two basics in place, I would also consider adding one of the following:

  1. Building a referral campaign system
  2. Regular answer bombing in watering holes
  3. Guest posting/speaking on other people’s platforms
