Converting Hourly Clients

It is hard to convert clients who are used to being billed by the hour for your time to any other financial arrangement.

Why?

Because selling your hours typically positions you as a subordinate who is paid to do as instructed.

To convert an hourly client to a non-hourly relationship often means changing they way they think of you, and this is not something that can be done very easily.

Yes, exceptions exist, but in general, this is the case. First impressions are lasting. It’s like trying to get out of the friend zone.

My advice is to focus your efforts on attracting new clients instead of struggling to change the way existing clients think of you.

So...

As you slowly decouple your time from your income, don’t be surprised if your existing client base is slowly replaced by a new type of client over time.

Yours,
