The Orientation Spectrum

There is a segment of the entrepreneurial population that is searching for a “get rich quick” scheme. This group is primarily self-oriented.

There’s another segment that is focused on helping others, but only in ways that utilize their current skills. This group is partially self-oriented, partially other-oriented.

There is a third segment that is so focused on helping others that they are willing to be flexible in how they do it, even if that means acquiring new skills. This group is primarily other-oriented.

Here the thing...

The irony is that the most reliable “shortcut” for the first group is to be more like the third group.

It’s a question of focus...

Focus on helping yourself and you are less likely to succeed.

Focus on helping others and you are more likely to succeed.
