I sure don’t.

This joke is apparently from some iteration of the Star Trek franchise that I’ve never watched. Maybe it’s funny to someone who did watch, but to me it’s less than not funny… it’s meaningless.

A comedian who doesn’t know their audience is probably going to bomb. This is patently obvious, right? Telling Star Trek jokes to a Golden Girls audience is not going to get you a Netflix special.

Here’s the thing…

Writing copy for your website, podcast, webinars, or other marketing materials is the exact same way.

If the words that you publish are meaningless to the people who read them, you’re going to bomb.
