Confusion about retainers...

For the past week or so, I’ve been banging on about retainers. Y’all have been sending in some fabulous questions during that time, which I have been doing my best to answer.

Lately that it seems like every time I answer one question, two more questions crop up. I had a video call with about a dozen people today, and a lengthy Slack chat with a few folks tonight - everyone seems to be flummoxed by the retainer concept.

I know what this means:

I’m doing a crap job explaining retainers.

So... here’s the plan.

I’m going to pause, gather more of your questions, and do my best to write up a definitive guide to retainers. I’m going to start at the beginning, outline the big picture strategy, and then work my way into the tactical details. I don’t know form it’ll take yet... I’ll let the content dictate the medium.

This will probably take a while because I’m going to need to smoke test my descriptions with people who don’t currently get what I mean. It’s one thing to know how to do something. It’s quite another to know how to teach it. And yet another to inspire action in the listener.

My goal is to to inspire action in the listener (that’s you!) so please hit reply and brain dump any questions you have about retainers.

I won’t reply immediately, but I’ll incorporate your input into the end result.
