How I use my calendar
My last couple of messages were about my calendar, which prompted a few people to ask about how I use it to organize my time.
For example:
“Would love to know how you organize your week!”
The short answer is that I don’t organize my week in my calendar.
My calendar is simply the place where I put appointments I have with other people.
Not “appointments” with myself, not “focus time”, not things like “go for a run”, and especially not todos.
Just timeslots where I promised someone else I would show up, either in person or online.
Things like:
- Coaching calls
- Podcast interviews
- Speaking events
- Karate classes (scheduled in advance)
- Gym sessions (with my trainer, not solo)
Everything else goes in my todo list.
Here’s the thing...
A calendar app is designed for managing appointments, not todos.
This is a very important distinction, at least for me.
Why?
Because putting todos in my calendar is a great way to ensure that I never do them.
Yours,
