Careers in the age of AI
Until we have inexpensive autonomous humanoid robots, anything that can’t be done by a computer (or in a factory) seems like a relatively safe choice as a career path.
The entire home services industry will probably be immune to disruption for a long time because, for example, you can’t ship your plumbing to a factory to be repaired by robots.
But what about non-blue collar jobs or remote work?
Will that all be disrupted by AI?
I don’t think so.
In the white collar / knowledge worker space, I would bet that skills like leadership, persuasion, sales, negotiation, connection, etc will be safe from AI.
Perhaps I lack imagination, it’s hard for me to picture an AI successfully aligning a group of hostile stakeholders, or convincing a bunch of spooked investors not to sell, or persuading a jury that the defendant is guilty.
But what do I know? These are just guesses. We’ll see soon enough!
Yours,
