Writing Good Code Fast

When I was billing hourly, I prided myself on cranking out really good code in record time.

And I was pretty good at it.

Even though writing good code fast decreased my income.

And then, one day, I stopped trading time for money.

Guess what happened?

HOLY MACKEREL! I got way Way WAY! more productive instantly, as if by magic.

Why did this happen?

Because instead of just looking for ways to write good code faster, I started looking for ways to deliver better results faster.

And often, delivering better results didn’t require writing any code at all.

So...

If you’re a productivity junkie who is still billing hourly, you won’t believe what will happen to your thinking once you stop trading time for money.

Yours,

—J
