Should I offer an advisory retainer?
People sometimes ask me whether I think they should add a retainer option to their product ladder.
Good question!
Assuming that you want to make more money in less time, and you want to stick with a service-based business model, then yes, it’s probably a good idea to have an advisory retainer offering available.
This answer typically raises a follow-up question:
“Okay but... how do I find clients who are happy to pay for ongoing access to my expertise?!”
Another good question!
And the answer is:
- Step 1. Develop some expertise that people value
- Step 2. Connect with people who value your expertise
- Step 3. Differentiate yourself from your competitors
