Book Reco: The Ultimate Sales Letter by Dan Kennedy

A fellow list member wrote in to ask about the copywriting style on my website and where he could find more examples of folks like me who take a similar approach.

I told him that Brennan Dunn, Don Miller, and Ramit Sethi all follow a similar format with their sales copy.

Here are some live examples:

But!

To be honest, I suspect that we’re all copying from the same source, perhaps without knowing it.

Why do I think this?

Because I recently read The Ultimate Sales Letter by Dan Kennedy and my reaction was, "Oh. So that’s how it’s done."

It was like discovering the Roy Orbison version of “Oh Pretty Woman” after years of thinking it was a Van Halen song.

If you want to get better at writing copy for your business, you absolutely must read this book.

I know the title might seem a little weird, and there are some sections of the book where Kennedy gets more “black hat” than I am comfortable with personally, but it is by far the best book on the subject I’ve ever read.

And it’s pretty funny, to boot!

If you’re not convinced and want a sample, this site has a really solid summary.

If you do read the book, please let me know what you think!

Yours,

—J
