Start with what you’re sure of

When you are thinking about leaving your day job to start your own business (or when you’re starting your business over from scratch), you’ll find that you have minimal constraints.
It’s like a clean slate. There’s loads of freedom - which is good - but freedom can be paralyzing - which is bad.
There are so many questions to answer…
- Who do I want to help?
- What do I want to specialize in?
- What problem do I want to eradicate?
- What kind of products and services should I offer?
- etc etc etc
So where do you start?
Start with whatever you’re most sure of.
Maybe you know you want to have a subscription-based business model. Or maybe you know you want to help solar energy companies. Or maybe you know you want to specialize in machine learning. Or maybe you know you want to do something about garbage in the ocean.
Whatever your thing is, begin with that as your initial constraint and fill in the blanks around it. You don’t have to have all the answers to get started. You just need something solid to stand on while you find your next foothold.
Yours,
