How would you react?

How would you react if you proposed a $6000 monthly retainer to a client, and they replied saying, “$3000 is the best we can do.”

One way to react is to be insulted. To curse them as ignorant cheapskates. To fire back a snarky email that you later laugh about with your colleagues.

Another way to react is to find something to sell them for $3000 per month. Something that is profitable to both you and the client. To reimagine the engagement in a way that will acheive their desired outcomes within their budget.
