14 Things You Could Do By Tomorrow at 5pm
Thanks to everyone who replied to my previous message with suggestions about how to do something remarkable enough to generate some good word-of-mouth marketing.
Here are 14 examples from the generous folks on this here mailing list (summarized for clarity and anonymized):
- Make solid networking introductions - e.g., startup founders with investors in your network.
- Forward a business opportunity to relevant companies in your target market.
- Donate to an owner’s charity in their honor.
- Let someone know you remembered their birthday.
- Share free libraries, or small applications - if you’re in software and have something lying around.
- Write some free advice and share on a blog, forum, newsletter, or social media platform.
- Share a useful insight that the people in your target market would be able to take action on immediately.
- Design a free mock-up of a lead gen scorecard for a contact’s business.
- Reach out to say ’hello’ and share something that might be of value to someone in your target market.
- Launch a “state of the industry” research report.
- Run a topical Q&A session for people in your target market.
- Re-run a webinar that was well received by the target market.
- Do a live AMA on whatever platform the target market frequents (e.g., YT, LI, Reddit, etc)
- Share a booking link for a 15-minute free call with people in the target market who are experiencing a specific challenge.
Here’s the thing...
There are three things that all of these suggestions have in common:
- You don’t need permission or approval from anyone to do any of them.
- Each requires that you spend one of three precious resources: time, money, or reputation.
- NOTE: This is what makes them “credible demonstrations of caring” (which was mentioned in the previous email).
- None of them takes more than an hour or two.
- NOTE: I admit that 10 and 14 would take longer than a couple hours to complete, but you could at least launch them in a day (and they’re probably the most remarkable of the bunch).
So...
If you would benefit from more positive word of mouth, why not pick one of these and do it by tomorrow at 5pm?
Yours,
—J
