Reader question re: Would you ever stop writing and let AI do it?
I’m still working my way through your thoughtful replies to my Attribution in the Age of AI email from a week ago.
There are a few common themes in the replies, but one I want to respond to today is:
Would you ever stop writing and let AI do it?
It’s an interesting question, because...
on the one hand, I love writing my own stuff manually...
and on the other hand, I’m a huge fan of automation.
So, if...
a) I believe that my written content is helping people, and
b) I can produce more written content with AI automation,
...then would I not have an obligation to produce more written content with AI?
(IOW - If you can help more people with the tool than without the tool, why wouldn’t you use the tool?)
A question of quality?
The crux of the matter comes down to quality, I think.
If/when AI is capable of generating text in my voice so well that even I can’t tell which articles I wrote and which were generated by AI, I’d probably start using AI a lot more.
That said, the practice of writing (and editing) is how I refine my thinking, so until I’m ready to stop thinking, I can’t/won’t stop writing.
Interesting times.
Yours,
—J
