Efficiency vs Efficacy

If you had to choose, would you rather be efficient or effective?

Let’s look at the definitions:

Efficiency - the ratio of the useful work performed in a process to the total energy expended.

Efficacy - the ability to produce a desired or intended result.

Optimizing a process to make it efficient is great, but what’s the point of doing so if the process isn’t effective at producing a desirable result?

That’d be like designing a faster way to climb the wrong ladder.
