Girl with Balloon
In case you haven’t heard, mysterious street-artist Banksy rigged a £1,000,000 painting to self-destruct at auction. Of course, the story created by Banksy’s actions will only serve to increase the value of the now shredded painting.
From the article:
“This is now part of art history in its shredded state and we’d estimate Banksy has added at a minimum 50% to its value, possibly as high as being worth £2m plus.”
Yup, totally.
Okay, but...
What can this story from the art world teach us independent software developers?
An bunch of things. For example:
- The value of story
- The effect of intangibles on price
- The absurdity of thinking commerce is a zero-sum game
In other words...
If you want to raise your prices, write a better story.
Yours,
