Productized Consulting
One of the quickest and easiest ways to experiment with implementing the advice I share here on the list is to spin up a productized consulting service.
Doing so is about as low risk an approach to ditching hourly as I can imagine because it allows you to experiment with positioning, pricing, market research, sales pages, outreach, etc...
And all without feeling like you’re “betting the farm” by making big changes to your business website or spending months (or years!) building a product that might launch to crickets.
For the uninitiated, a productized service is a fixed scope, high touch service that you sell at a specific, published price. It’s probably something you already do, you just decide to present it to the world as a discrete offering.
The big benefit of having a published price is that it removes the need to learn the three most difficult things I teach:
- How to have an effective Why Conversation
- How to write a highly profitable value priced proposal
- How to close a deal without negotiating price
I’m a big fan of using productized services when folks are in the early stages of escaping the hourly trap, so I asked my good friend Jane Portman to join me on Ditching Hourly for a chat about her new book, Your Productized Consulting Guide.
Here’s a link to the episode:
Productized Consulting with guest Jane Portman
Jane shares a bunch of great info on this topic. If you’re interested in learning more about productizing, definitely check it out.
(And be sure to listen all the way to the end because Jane offers a 20% off coupon code for Ditching Hourly listeners.)
Enjoy!
Yours,
