Ditcherville Relaunch Bonus (time-sensitive)
As of today, Ditcherville is officially back in Slack. Woohoo!
(If you don’t know the backstory, I moved everyone from Slack to Circle in January, it didn’t work out, so I made the decision to move everyone back. Lesson learned! Don’t try to move the house party to a new house ;-)
If you’ve been considering joining, please read on...
The members made the move back, but the conversations didn’t. Slack hides messages older than 90 days, and the room sat dormant while we were in Circle.
So... the channels are a clean slate, which makes this an unusually good time to join. There’s no backlog to catch up on, and you’ll be part of the conversation from week one of the reboot.
To mark the occasion, I’m doing a slightly unusual pricing experiment based on a software pattern called “exponential backoff”.
If you’ve never heard of exponential backoff, here’s a snippet from Wikipedia:
Exponential backoff is commonly utilized as part of rate limiting mechanisms in computer systems such as web services, to help enforce fair distribution of access to resources and prevent network congestion. Each time a service informs a client that it is sending requests too frequently, the client reduces its rate by some predetermined factor until the client’s request rate reaches an acceptable equilibrium.
Maybe some online payment platforms support something like exponential backoff pricing, but mine sure doesn’t (i.e., Moonclerk). However, I figured out a way to hack it together with their coupon system.
Here’s how it works:
- Ditcherville is normally $99/mo.
- I have created five coupon codes, each of which locks in a lower monthly price.
- Whatever price you lock in is yours for as long as you stay subscribed.
- Each price step up has twice as many seats as the one before:
- LOCK49: $49/mo, 2 seats
- LOCK59: $59/mo, 4 seats
- LOCK69: $69/mo, 8 seats
- LOCK79: $79/mo, 16 seats
- LOCK89: $89/mo, 32 seats
I’ve never heard of something like exponential backoff pricing before, so this is an experiment more than anything.
As a total pricing nerd who’s fascinated by financial incentives, I’m super curious to see how it turns out.
In any case, I’ll report back once the experiment is over.

NOTE: If you try LOCK49 and it gives you an error, that code has been used up. Try the next one down the list until you find one that works. If all five are gone, the experiment is over, and the price is the regular $99/mo.
