Reader Response re: Can AI take your job?

Long-time list member Glenda Snodgrass replied to my recent email about a couple factors that might indicate whether AI can take your job. (Shared with permission):

True story:

A client that had used us for compliance consulting in the past decided that they needed a data governance program, based on the results of our past project. Their stated goal was to identify, locate and isolate data needing protection before rolling out AI to the organization as a whole. Responsible use of AI -- a commendable goal.

So they went to AI and asked it to tell them how to develop a data governance program. They got a 6-step process with a whole bunch of descriptions and bullet lists and interim goals, etc. They formed a committee and spun their wheels for about 4 months.

Finally they came back to us and said “Can you help us implement this program? Because we can’t figure out how to get started.”
