Success Story re The Upside of Niching Down

Fellow list-member Robert Smith replied to my Upside of Niching Down message with a success story of his own (shared with permission):

Jonathan,

Thank you for the great newsletter. It’s probably the only email I actually look forward to on a daily basis.

I think niching down is great. Not only is it helpful for buyers, I also find it very helpful for networking. If I put myself out there as “a CPA”, I get lots of intros, but a lot of them don’t fit the type of clients I serve.

If, instead, I put myself out there as a CPA who “exclusively focuses on helping foreign tech and manufacturing companies enter the US market”, I get lots of very specific and valuable connections, and when I speak to those people I get even more specific and valuable connections, including prospective clients. So much more time efficient.

Keep preaching that gospel!

With gratitude,

Robert

Here’s the thing...

I hope it’s obvious that being known as “the CPA who exclusively focuses on helping foreign tech and manufacturing companies enter the US market” would attract more and better clients than being “just another garden-variety CPA”, but if not, you can take Robert’s word for it.

Great example... thanks to Robert for sharing!

Yours,

—J
