I Love Rock And Rock

I was driving the 12yo home from karate class the other day and “I Love Rock And Roll” by Joan Jett came on the radio.

There’s a line in the song where Joan belts out:

“Put another dime in the jukebox, baby!”

...which produced the following conversation:

Me: You can’t buy anything for a dime anymore.

12yo: I would sell you my toenail for a dime.

Me: The whole toenail, or just the clipping?

12yo: Just the clipping.

Me: How much for the whole toe?

12yo: Like the meat part and everything?

Me: Yeah, the whole toe.

12yo: (thinks for a few seconds) Fifty bucks.

Me: Seems reasonable.

12yo: (does some mental math) That means I could make five hundred bucks from my feet. But then I’d permanently have no balance. And balance is important in life.

Me: That’s a good point.

12yo: Nevermind... no deal.

Me: So your balance is worth more than $500 then?

12yo: Yeah.

Me: How did you calculate how much your balance is worth?

12yo: I can just tell.

There are some interesting pricing dynamics illustrated by this conversation that I could nerd out on, but really I just thought it was hilarious and wanted to share something funny today :-)

Yours,

—J
