How I’m going to do biz dev after leaving LinkedIn
During a Q&A today, I mentioned that I’m officially leaving LinkedIn at the end of the year. Someone asked:
What are you going to do instead?
Good question!
I’m going to keep doing my existing stuff:
- Sending daily emails to my mailing list
- Publishing interviews on my podcast
- Guesting on other people’s podcasts
- Posting more videos on my YouTube channel
And I’m going to experiment with a bunch of new stuff:
- More presentations to private communities (IRL and virtual)
- 1:1 catch-up calls with old colleagues and past clients
- Participation in more small, private group chats
- Hosting/attending small IRL events (dinners, roundtables)
- Get back to doing conference talks
- And last but not least... handwritten snail mail!
The theme of the new stuff is that it’s all stuff that doesn’t really scale that well.
I can’t hand off a conference talk or a dinner discussion to an assistant or AI.
I can’t automate a handwritten note or a 1:1 call with an old colleague.
And guess what? I wouldn’t want to!
Why’s that?
Because the other theme here is that all of these things are fun.
A lot more fun than engagement farming on LinkedIn.
Yours,
—J
