Value Pricing Role Play Follow-Up

Thanks to everyone who replied to my last message! The vast majority of folks who wrote in found the role-play approach extremely helpful.

Based on the response, it’s safe to say this is by far the best way I’ve found yet to demonstrate how I conduct The Why Conversation, so I plan to experiment with it more in the future.

That said, there were a few replies that focused on the AI aspects of the message, and more generally, on my recent obsession with AI here on the mailing list.

So here are some thoughts/comments about some of the various AI concerns that I received:

  1. I don’t intend to turn this mailing list into an AI newsletter. The focus remains “pricing for independent professionals”, so I’ll do a better job mixing in non-AI content. There’s plenty else to talk about wrt pricing professional services.
  2. I don’t use AI to write my messages for me. That’d be like bringing a forklift to the gym. Writing is how I strengthen my brain. Outsourcing it would make no sense. If you think one of my messages is “AI slop”, actually nope... It’s just a bad message I wrote ;-)
  3. When AI is somehow involved in a message I wrote, it’s called out as such. For example, the “founder” parts in my last message, or the show notes for a podcast episode.
  4. I started a roundtable of ten solo consultants who are experimenting with using AI to help run their businesses so we could compare notes. If and when we have any useful findings, I’ll probably write about them here, but only occasionally.
  5. If you want more AI musings from me, not less, you’re in luck! Kelli and I are restarting Terrifying Robot Dog, and new episodes will be released soon. In the meantime, you can peruse the ten previous seasons to see if you might like it.

Yours,

—J
