Calendar Spam

Today, I’ve got a PSA about a new type of spam (or at least one that’s new to me).

About 6 weeks ago, I started noticing calendar invites pop into my calendar that I didn’t recognize.

This caused me some serious confusion because I thought they were real events sent that I was booked to speak at.

(I use a lot of scheduling links sent by folks who want to interview me or have me present at their event, and these events all show up differently in my calendar.)

Upon further investigation, I realized that it was just spammers adding my email address to webinars and Zoom calls that they’re hosting, mostly likely to shill some garbage.

Grr...

My calendar is the #2 component in the daily operating system I use to run my business, so any shenanigans in there drives me crazy.

Up until now I’ve just been deleting them when they pop in, but today I noticed that you can mark them as spam and block the sender.

So...

If you find yourself the victim of calendar spam, poke around in the event and look for a button to block/report the spammer.

I use Google calendar, so I know it’s possible there, but I imagine that the other major platforms have a similar feature buried in there somewhere.

Best of luck! And tomorrow, back to our regularly scheduled programming :-)

Yours,

—J
