Adapt how?

First of all, thank you to everyone who replied to my last couple of messages about the importance of adapting in times of rapid change.

One of the most common themes in the replies could be summarized something like this:

I know I need to adapt, but things are changing SO fast that I don’t know what to choose.

Totally fair point!

I’m reminded of an interview with Jeff Bezos from a while back.

The host asked Bezos something like:

“Technology is changing so fast. What’s going to be different ten years from now?”

And Bezos said:

“I don’t think about that. The question I think about is, ‘What ISN’T going to be different ten years from now?’ In ten years, customers are still going to want lower prices and faster shipping, so that’s what we’re focused on.”

Say what you want about Bezos, but this insight strikes me as a great way to frame the question of how to adapt.

What might that look like in practice?

I’d start by making a list of things you’re pretty sure your clients are still going to want in ten years.

Yours,

—J
