Buying Stuff vs Selling Stuff

On a podcast interview this week, I was reminded for the umpteenth time of how bizarrely ironic hourly billing is.

Consider this...

Pretty much every day of pretty much your entire life, you buy stuff.

With pretty much every purchase you make, you know the price before you decide to make the purchase.

AND YET!

When you first started selling your services, you probably refused to give your buyers a price up front, and instead, passed your costs directly on to the client in the form of hourly billing.

It’s nuts!

Here’s the thing...

It’s a mystery to me why pretty much everyone forgets that buyers want to know the price before they decide to buy something. Duh!

Considering that we all have way more experience buying stuff than selling stuff, you’d think we’d have more empathy and understanding for the BUYER than we seem to.

Yours,

—J
