In his own words

I have forever been interested in two things: computers and music. So, after spending the better part of my teens and twenties attempting to cultivate a career in music, I finally crossed over to the dark side and took a desk job as a graphic designer.

One thing led to another and the next thing I knew, I was making a nice living designing custom database and web applications for a prominent FileMaker consulting company, The Moyer Group. I became the Vice President and had a ball managing a bunch of excellent developers on a wide range of projects. During that time, I started writing magazine articles on FileMaker Pro. In 2006, I spoke at the FileMaker developer conference in Orlando for the first time.

After several years of working for a recognized leader in the industry, I had a head full of exciting ideas about how to build a better mousetrap. Most of them were not a good fit for my employer, so I eventually ventured off to put my money where my mouth was. Toward that end, I founded a software consulting firm with the extremely unimaginitive name of "Jonathan Stark Consulting."
